What to do When your hard drive fails
  • +100%

    STOP

  • +100%

    LEAVE IT OFF

When you know you have a hard drive failure. The best advice is to stop using it and leave it powered off. The reason for this is we want to preserve the drive in the best condition as possible. Data recovery becomes harder and more expensive the more the hard drive deteriorates. This includes software problems like when a drive has been corrupted or data is lost from deletion. Professional data recovery is always conducted in a read only read once scenario. If you start experimenting on a hardware faulty drive smashing it with days or even weeks of experiments you found on the internet or gave it to a unqualified computer store then the life of the drive will degrade. Once again making data recovery harder and more expensive. Australia only has 5 recognised professional data recovery companies. The rest of the data recovery market is filled with hundreds of websites with false dreams and claims. Its easy to spot an inexperienced technician. They use language that lacks a simple diagnosis of what the exact problem is. If they can't diagnose the exact problem in simple language then they are trying to cash in on your faulty drive. Same advice goes for software problems. A lot of computer repair stores only have free ineffective internet software. Software problem data recovery should be read only. Too many users make their problem worse by continuing to use their drive. The more data activity occurring to the hard drive the harder it will be to recover old data. Please leave it off for maximum data recovery success.

Nathan did a excellent job recovering the entire hard disk that had hardware encryption. I highly recommend Zero Alpha!!!! Thank you!
